OUT OF DARK

A Choreography of Listening

Out of Dark is an immersive dance work that unfolds in complete darkness, where audiences surround the performers and experience the choreography entirely through sound. Three dancers create an acoustic landscape of breath, footsteps, claps, and movement, transforming presence itself into rhythm and resonance. With no visual reference, the work asks: how do we perceive dance when it cannot be seen?

Rooted in my background as a visual artist Out of Dark extends my long-standing interest in perception, minimalism, and the body’s relation to space. Since lockdown, my practice has shifted decisively into performance, stripping theatricality down to its essentials to invite heightened awareness and intimacy. Following my 2024 Resolution presentation of The Chair—a solo with a single prop and no music—this new work expands the enquiry, moving from solo presence into collective listening and ensemble dynamics.

Out of Dark is not about what can be watched but what can be felt, heard, and sensed in the absence of light. It is a choreography of listening, where silence, sound, and breath become the score, and audience and performers share a rare vulnerability together in the dark.
